Fagaras from peak to creek #barcaciu

Fagaras from peak to creek, a weekend to remember @barcaciu mountain hut. The plan was on for this year, we wanted so bad to visit Barcaciu hut and ride some fresh trails in Fagaras mountains. The trigger was some post on NUFO BIKE TRIP YouTube channel and we ware certain we want to ride those trails as soon as possible.
We made a quick plan and booked some places @Barcaciu even tow the weather was not looking friendly. But as I say (ain’t always true) gods favors the strong ones and this weekend was so true. We had some small showers on Saturday, just enough to keep us cool, and on Sunday we had the perfect weather, chill, a bit cloudy for good pictures and no rain.
And the trails, let me tell you about the trails, they ware in perfect conditions. You recognize a good mountain hut by the trail that access it, and this one was clean as a bike park trail.
On Saturday we send it down from the hut on the same trail we push-biked on and it was amazing. It’s a 4km trail in perfect conditions with some technical bits in the first half, roots and stones and lots of lines, and at the end some nice flow with some tight switchbacks just to keep you on your toes ;). Then pushbike back at the hut for some drinks and a good meal. We had a nice evening, even build up a ramp and jumped it in the sunset light for some cool pictures, thanks Mihai for the good idea, and keeping us in shape for them trails.
Next day we woke up in the morning for a beautiful breakfast in front of the hut. Mrs Mariana kooks up some great food and we leaved the hut with our energy levels restored. The target was Scara peak and some epic descent on an unmarked trail. We had 3h of pushbike until the peak and after that over 90% descent, and a long one, around 12km of descent on a epic trail with and unique view overt the west part of the country with Olt river sneaking in the horizon. Once we entered the forest, we passed the trail that links Barcaciu to Negoiu hut and stayed on an unmarked trail that was in rather good conditions.
The trail is incredibly beautiful on a loamy terrain. It’s good to have a GPS track with you. We put it on trail forks so check it out if you’re in search of new trails to shred.
Overall it was one of those epic rides that will remain pinned in our memories for a long time. Check out the pictures and the clips bellow for a clear verdict ;). Enjoy and ride safe!

Bucegi enduro mtb tour

This ride has become an season opener for us. It seams we always take on this ride at the beginning of the seasons when the snow melts and the trails become accessible.

It is an epic and beautiful ride that goes around Bucegi massif. We usually take the cabin from Sinaia, up to 2000 m and from there we begin our ride with a descent to Padina then a climb to Strunga refuge where we stop for a quick lunch brake. From there a beautiful trail awaits us and takes us down to Simon village. After Simon, we start a 3 h climb to Diham mountain hut. From this point we can take several trails down to Busteni, like Izvoare descent, Muchia Lunga or the fire road that takes you to Gura Diham. All of them are easy to ride and fun.

It is one of the rides we will take each year because of the easy access and the beautiful views along the way. You can find the track of our ride at this link on garmin connect. The trails are also on trail forks. Enjoy and ride safe!

Bacau MTB trails, new place to #shred

This year was supposed to be the first edition of Bacau Enduro, a stage in CNE (Romanian enduro cup) but, due to Covid problems the whole cup was canceled after first stage, Semenic Enduor.
This does not mean we cannot shred the CNE stops so we headed to Bacau to check out the trails. Cristian Totu, the main shaper here was kind enough to greed us and show us the trails. The community is a small one but very friendly and the trails are fun and kind of tricky, just like Ciocanu Enduro trails. They seem easy but the bite you when you less expect it. From a competitive point of view, the fit racers will have an advantage here because of the pedaling sections but you also have some technical sections that surprise you after some full speed ones. it was very dry and hot so is better to ride the trails in spring or autumn conditions, but we managed them in the august heat to. the access for the peak of the trails is quite easy, you can pedal it all the way up. They have 3 trails ready all similar but with different features. You will find berm, rock gardens and jumps, all in a progressive way and all fun. Overall they are quite fun trails and if you ride with the locals you will have a 100% authentic experience ;).
Thanks Cristi, Andrei, Ana and Danut for the great time and the beers we had. Cant wait to ride with you guys again! Cheers mates and we owe you one for setting up these place.
You can look up the trails on trail forks! Enjoy and ride safe!

SEMENIC ENDURO 2020 AKA MUDFEST

SEMENIC ENDURO 2020 AKA MUDFEST

Sorry to say this, but it was a veritable mudfest this year. We made jokes about the forecast but the weather was way worse then the forecast so we ended up riding 3 days on soaking wet trails.

To bad for this beautiful place that got to experience such weather in a contest weekend and the trails got to suffer quite a lot ….

This is a shame because here are some of the greatest trails in Ro and I wanted to ride them so bad, just as I remember them.

It was a bit harsh on the organizers to. They found the courage to hold the event, even though the times are not the nicest (Covid and all) and the weather kicked their moral to.

It was fun the first day in training but being in contest on this kind of a weather, man, it’s to harsh I tell you.

I had to do it just to learn that next time when the forecast comes true and looks like this, I’ll turn myself in an action sports photographer for the time of the contest πŸ˜†, it’s safer for me and for my bike, and I still do something more useful then racing πŸ˜…πŸ€·β€β™‚

Otherwise, the place is great for riding trails, just beautiful. Some nice trails with good dirt, all on a beautiful Mountain with a beautiful lake at the bottom just in the perfect place for you to cool down after a gnarly descent 🌬πŸ’ͺ.

Hope next year we get rid of all the troubles and have a perfect enduro season, fingers crossed.

Until next time, cheers to the guys from Bike Attack Resita for holding the contest and check out the trails on trail forks. And don’t forget that the trails are there the whole year, so go visit them, you’ll have a blast riding there πŸ€—πŸ˜‰. Congratulation to the winners for pulling hard and hope their bikes are ok! Ride safe and enjoy!

Also, check out this great article on EWS web page with the race report! Things happen here to and it’s all due to the implication of some great people from Resita, cheers mates! 🍻

P.S. For accommodation in the area, if you don’t look for something fancy, you can check Haus Hubertus place out, it’s a very nice hut whit a great garden where you can even camp πŸ˜‰ Great food also!

Star Wars on Bahna trails

I had some unfinished businesses in the south, one free weekend and decided to go back again. The weather was very unpredictable, lot of rain all over the country, but as I always say, any weekend away from Bucharest riding my bike is a great weekend.

With this in mind, I loaded my stuff and my battle horse in the car again and headed south. First day I rode the usual trails of Mehedinti Enduro and meet Pufi on the trails. He was on a shovel day as his bike was in service. After a couple of rides, Eugen Kable came and we took another two rides and then call it a day.

In the evening and the next day in the morning I got to explore more the city center of Drobeta Turnu Severin. Man, this city has some good to great concrete, just perfect for some street sessions. I had my roller blades with me but I was just too tired. I have to come back another time to explore more the streets of Turnu Severin.

Second day I headed of with Eugen to Bahna trails, you can look them up on trail forks. What a pleasant surprise! The trails here are so different, so diverse and these ones are just a MTB gem. Technical stuff with some insane view over Bahna village. You have to look up the trails on trail forks, you have a description there, but let me ensure you they are freaking awesome. There are 4 trails, 3 with some black sections and one more of a blue one but don’t underestimate her because she has some nice curves that will make you howl like a wolf πŸ˜†πŸ˜. You can combine the trails in the area for a couple of days ride and you will have a great vacation. Have in mind that the access is by pushbike or pedal so don’t except any shortcuts… earn your turns!

Here is the link to Bahna trails and bellow you can find some movies with each trail. Enjoy and ride safe!

Post lockdown ride in Leaota Mountains

FREEEEDOOOM!

Yes, we really deserved this ride. Please don’t be scared of the number of people in the picture, yes, we did know that we will meet but we were separated groups of 3 persons or less that met there and happened to take the same ride in Leaota mountains, so don’t judge.

It was a well deserved ride, hard, but we enjoyed it very much. Leaota mountains are quite underestimated. They hold a bunch of awesome trails, hard to access because you have to pedal your way up but, let me confirm that you will not regret the climb of a few hours.

The terrain is wild, natural, technical and offers a great view over the horizon and the other mountains in proximity like Bucegi, Iezer or Piatra Craiului.

Only the view is enough for rewording the climb, but if you consider the trails, clearly you are the winner.

Not long after the start we kind of forgot the harsh past 2 months and we gave ourselves to the ride, enjoyed it and made laughs of our rusty bodies …. this is truly a medicine for the heart, mountains are beautiful and bikes are awesome

Until next time, enjoy and ride safe, we sure will!

CENTRAL BALKANS ENDURO BIKE TRIP THANKS TO OLD MOUNTAIN EPIC BULGARIA

This one os from far back, I think 2 years back. An awesome trip near Sopot and Botev peak, in central Balkans, all thanks to our friends from Old Mountain Epic. It was the most hardcore ride I have taken so far, an all day all out trip! Our neighbors country is beautiful and we have to explore it more. A beautiful ride with a beautiful crew. You can find out more content about this trip in this article we wrote in the past: Old Mountain Epic trip in Veliko Tarnovo and Sopot, or more about Veliko Tarnovo and Old Mountain Epic in the article about our Halloween ride πŸ™‚ VELIKO TARNOVO HALLOWEEN BIKERIDE PARTY

Metal Enduro Resita, the last for now

We could not pass the final edition of Metal Enduro without some gratitude words… yes you heard it right, they said it was the last edition… for now, but I for one don’t bite this at all :))). Yes, maybe next year will not be held, just for us to miss it so much and to taste it better when it’s coming back.

We said it before, it’s the greatest enduro competition in Romania, the trails, the crew, the city, the time, its perfect. I love it so much because this contest transformed me and showed me why I want to ride my bike so much and made me a better rider each year… hope it comes back soon.

This edition was not second to others, it was in the same format as last year but it felt better. Somehow I think I got more mature as a rider and start treating it better, carefully and looking to have more fun. I like this in a contest, and I m glad I changed my approach to them. I am really looking forward for next year to see if I can keep this state of mind :D.

The trails don’t need no introduction, you’ve seen it in previous post like this one so bellow we leave you some row segments from the contest, some pictures and a trailer from last year cause we liked it so much.

We didn’t make an edit yet but we have the material for it. Maybe we will make it when the contest comes back to life πŸ˜†πŸ˜….

We wold like to send our many thanks tot the crew from Bike Attack Resita for holding this beautiful contest and the hole Romanian Enduro Cup! I bet it was a great journey and we loved being a small part of it! Cheers mates and cant wait to see you guys again on the trails or on the race office πŸ€£πŸ‘ŠπŸ’ͺ.

As a reminder, the effects of this year Enduro Cup ware:

  • New riding spots and all trails uploaded to trailforks;
  • Lots of young guns on the trails. The future looks great!
  • New teams;
  • Know how exchange between organizers;
  • many others…

The calendar for next year Romanian Enduro Cup it’s already up and we have 2 new stages at Sinaia and Bacau. Cant wait for this season, my hands and feet are aching already! 🀩

Ciucas Enduro 2019, awesome friendly contest

Last year in August, Ciucas Enduro was revived in a new, not so competitive but pretty awesome form.

It was a friendly enduro contest, something more like a gathering, in which riders treated the so called contest as they wished. Some of them really battled but most of the riders present ware only there to ride the trails with their fiends and to somehow have a taste of how an enduro contest is held.

Its a good thing because people get to see how an enduro mtb contest is like but have way more fun. Not everybody is prepared for racing enduro and this way you get a casual intro into riding enduro.

Beside this, you get some cleaned trails, music, food, great beer and lots of fun with you’re mates or get to know new people from the community.

Hope the contest will be held next year to, because we really enjoyed it and had a great time riding and having fun.

Thanks to all volunteers and organizers for making it possible. Cheers mates! πŸš΅β€β™‚πŸ‘ŠπŸ»

Cindrel electric bikepacking trip, thanks to NevAcademy

Ok, so the season had to end with some quality bike packing trip, and all had gone down thanks to NevAcademy and their great bikes.

We wanted to go back to Cindrel mountains because last time we came here we had 48h of rain which made us cut short the track we wanted to do. This time, thanks to Adrian and his electric bikes, we managed to do the track in a record time and we had some great fun going uphill, not only downhill.

Let me tel you, its something else with the electric bike, a totally different kind of ride, you have loads of fun going uphill, you cover a lot more ground, and you work out quite the same. As I see it until now, if you live next to a mountain, don’t hesitate to buy an electric bike, its exactly what you need. The electric bike will not replace you old trusty nonelectric bike but it will complete “the ride”, trust me.

As we live in Bucharest, and have to go 2h minimum by car to reach any mountain, the electric bike is not yet an option but we shell talk in a few years…

Ok, so our trip was already planed from last year, we knew the track we wanted to do and where we want to sleep.
We wanted to reach Cindrel peak, and then Frumoasa peak, and then descent on the rocky road down to the road that takes you to Gura Raului and then go up to Cindrel mountain refuge. Only on the way up we stumble upon a nice hut belonging to the forester in the area, and it had a room open. It looked to good to be true and decided to spend the night there. It was so warm and cozy that we didn’t even inflate our mattresses… It was the best sleep I had in a while ☺

Next day we did some inventory on our equipment, see the movie bellow, and then up on the bikes and up the mountain, back to the ridge of Cindrel mountains. We passed Cindrel refuge and then did some electric push bike until we reached the ridge. From there we descended to Canaia refuge on the other side of the ridge and then back to Paltinis on an awesome trail that goes from Batrana Cole. Man it was fun, so fun that we ware howling like wolfs on the descend πŸ€πŸ€™.

This weekend made me reconsider the possibility of owning an electric bike in the future and opened up some new ideas of rides in the future, some hybrid ones, just you wait 😜.

Thanks Adrian and NevAcademy for the ride, we had a great time and cant wait to ride together again.

Until then, we leave you with the material bellow to take you’re own conclusions. Ride safe!

METAL ENDURO 2019 RAW LINES

Sorry for the late post, but only now I found the time to do this πŸ˜…

I have some videos from this season that I am going to make, probably in winter, most of them from Enduro stages that happen this year.

Now is the time of Metal Enduro RAW lines. It is fun to see how some of the top 10 riders in RO treated the technical parts of the tracks, a real joy to watch.

Until next video, enjoy and ride safe because the season is not over yet πŸ€™. Check the you tube channel for videos of metal enduro special stages, all 8 of them 😁

Yeah, and with my thanks to the friends from Bike Attack Resita for this wonderful enduro season! πŸš΅β€β™‚πŸ₯‡πŸ†πŸ‘Š

MEHEDINTI RELOADED

Yep, another superb one in Mehedinti county 😜, this time 3 new trails and some fun riding on the old ones.

We cant get enough of this place, it has something different to it, something like an… wonderland πŸ˜€ and our buddies here are just cool to ride and hang out with, so no wonder we always come back here with great pleasure. And I have a feeling is not the last stop here for this year πŸ˜…πŸ€™.

So, this time we did Domogled descent with Feregari descent, and afterwords we go to Tasnei valley and did some hardcore riding, and when I say hardcore I really mean it. That trail made you look very hard for the word flow in it … But it worked out ok πŸ’ͺ🀭.

After this totally hardcore Saturday, we did the Mehedinti Enduro trails on Sunday, but with a surprise one, the old but new Priest trail which is pretty awesome let me say :D, just check out the video bellow.

Here you can find the videos and some pics from that great weekend. Aaaa, and don’t let me forget, Thanks Jan and Alex for the great pictures and for the great riding, it was a pleasure riding with you and follow you on the trail πŸ‘ŠπŸ».

You can find the links to the trails here: Domogled Trail; Feregari Trail; Priest Trail.

Until next time, ride safe! πŸš΅β€β™‚

Epic one in Bucegi Mountains, Omu peak – Tiganesti – Clincea – Bran descent

Another epic one in Bucegi Mountains, Omu peak – Tiganesti – Clincea – Brand descent.

This one was pure gold! Glad I listen to Petre Paraschiv on this one because it was so epic. Been a while science I’ve been to Omu peak in Bucegi mountains, classic route, peaty crowded…. that’s why I don’t look so eager to go there. The scenery is just breathtaking but I kind of like less crowded trails.

But the descent was just so good, and meet up just 2 groups of hikers.

The weather was almost perfect, at Omu peak it was looking like it’s about to snow, we had our hands and feet cold as ice, and pretty hard breaking in these conditions… But after we pass Scara peak, the temperature was better. And that’s where the fun part begun!

A trail with lots of flow, but also some steep technical parts that challenged us.

Be careful because you have some carry bike to do, and some chains in sight, almost like via ferrata :P. But after that part, that is also very amazing, the fun part begins.

Check out the track HERE, and the video also. On youtube channel if you look it up you will find the extended version of the video ;). Enjoy and ride safe!

Straja and Parang quality trail riding

Ok, so we haven’t posted for ages, that’s true, but we hope to make a recovery this fall.

Somehow, the plans didn’t go exactly as we wanted and sacrifice the writing for riding and working :P, but we have a lots of stories to tell and a lot more going on. Mainly we want to make an article about each stage of Romanian Enduro Cup, that was just sick as so far. This weekend is Harghita Enduro, you can read more here, and then final stop, Metal Enduro Resita.

Ok, that’s it for now with apologies, lets say something more meaningful. This weekend we went to a short trip to Valcan mountains (Straja resort on trailforks) and Parang mountais, 2 places that we never ridden on.

Man, it was a good choice because we found out some serious trails here.

At Straja, we knew the terrain from last year, from Straja Enduro, but we only been there as photographers. This year we got to ride the place. Still sorry we didn’t manage tot reach the contest but next year for sure we will not miss it.

Straja has mainly 4 trails, 2 at the top of the mountains, a bit more alpine and you can reach them with a chairlift or by peddling out, and 2 long descents at the bottom where you have a gondola to help you out. The gondola and the chairlift do not always work so is good to check it out before you head it there.

There is also shuttle service but it has a minimum number of riders that gets it started, at least 5 so check this out to.

The 2 main trails, the ones that run both sides of the gondola, Lupilor and Baloo by there names are just sick! you really feel that you are alive when you ride them. You’re arms to :))))

For accommodations if you enjoy a basic mountain hut with cosy beds, shower ad a great view, and oh yeah, a great host, please check Allma Pension ;).

After a fuzzy evening with the fellas, next morning we headed out to Parag mountains after a quick breakfast at Medieval restaurant in the center of Petrosani (P.S. very good omelet there :D)

In Parang we took the chairlift up. Its an old chair lift with no support for bikes. Its something improvised so please take care of you’re bikes. Check out the way they put them on the chairs and pus some protections for the frame, just bellow the saddle because they will hang out by the saddle. We used our knee pads for this :).

From where the chair lets you of, we headed for Parangul Mare peak. Its only pushbike from here, or, if you’re name is Ludo May, you might be able to ride it out… not us.

After 3 hours of pushbike, carrying or hiking it, we gave up and headed back. It was a bit late so we decided to head back early. It was a bummer but the descent from Carja peak was awesome. Steep, rough, loose technical, a real jem :D.

Form where the chairlifts let us, we ride fox trail, that takes you back to the base of the chairlift, you can find it on trailforks.

Man, that’s a very nice trail, with lots of flow! it is a bit obscured at the middle or at the end but its ok, just ask the locals for directions.

Overall it was a nice weekend, really fun with quality riding. Ckeck the videos and photos bellow to convince yourself :D. Ride safe!

SHAPING THE SOUTH, MEHEDINTI ENDURO

This year is the first edition of Mehedinti enduro, courtesy of Alexandru Pufan aka The Pufalot who has worked his ass of for us to have an awesome contest on 12 of May here in Topolnitei Valley, Mehedinti county.

Yep, this guy has shaped some awesome trails here and took the time to show us around. Is the second time coming here and we had the same feeling, being amazed of what this place has to offer.

The contest itself has around 27.5 km with and elevation of 1350m and 5 downhill stages varying between 1 and 2 km long. Here’s a description of them made by The Pufalot, on which we agree πŸ‘Š.

The 5 specials from Enduro’s first Mehedinti edition are located on the Topolnita Valley, a diverse geographically area, making the trails quite different from each other.

The first trail, La Muerte Peluda, is the most rocky and the longest (and the most difficult to reach, with a transfer of nearly 7km), with several exposed and inadequate areas. Completely natural, this is in fact an old touristic trail brought back to life on the occasion of the contest.

On the other hand, the second special PS2, Imaginationland, will be the shortest but most interesting. It will pass through the ruins of a fortress and will descend along a natural carousel, so that in the end it will pass through a rocky and open area.

The following two PS3 and PS4 have the same starting point, being constructed from scratch over the past 3 years. Much easier from a technical point of view, they will probably please those who prefer more of a bike park type of trail with lots of berms and jumps.

PS3, Stevie Niks will actually be a berm skill test for the riders, having a dozen of berms, while the next one, PS4, Blame Canada, will show us who is best in the air, building the biggest gap in the competition. And yes, this guy’s a South Park die hard fan 🀣🀟.

The last trail, Taming Strange, completed this month, is actually a combination of everything we’ve ever met. Technical areas alternate with flow paths, including very tight switchbacks, straight-forward portions, drops and gaps, on unforeseeable terrain 😳.

Hope this words made you an image of what to expect, and if not check up this edit that we made form our first day of riding here.

Second day we took a short trip to Herculane baths to check up some sick exposed trails that we will be uploading soon on youtube. Beside this we will upload all 5 contest trails in the next days so stay tuned on VRR youtube channel πŸ€™.

Also, you can find the complete map of the contest here: MEHEDINTI ENDURO ON TRAILFORKS! πŸš΅β€β™‚

Yes, it was a sick weekend and all we have to say is that we can hardly wait for the contest and also to come back here to check out more trails. For sure in automn we plan another trip here, there are so much more trails to be ridden.

This guy is actually shaping the south of this country! Cheers mate! 🍻
